When rolling out clay into a thin sheet, sometimes a shape appears that reminds the artist of a face. The clay becomes a beautiful skin. It's too tempting not to follow this further. Slowly, she allows eyes, mouth, and sometimes a nose to emerge, using materials like scraps of fabric to leave soft imprints in the clay. Then comes the color. By carefully removing pigment in some areas and leaving it in the deeper areas, the face takes on its own skin/expression, as if gently coming to life. Every nuance and shadow tells a subtle story, captured in the timeless language of clay and color. Fired at a high temperature, this piece creates a beautifully solid ceramic artwork.
